F1, Table for One

Bodega Y Tapas

SINGAPORE - So while majority of the country is watching F1 either at home or at the race track, I decided to escape it all and console myself by going out and having fantastic meal. I keep passing this Spanish Restaurant whenever I am on the bus, and I keep meaning to try it. Today was THE day. It was the most expensive and the most delicious meal I've had since I got here.

Piquillos Rellenos De Pollo
(Piquillos Pepper Stuffed with Chicken in Spanish sauce)

On the way home, I managed to catch a bit of the F1 race while on the bus. You can only hear the sound really. ;)

Singapore Cuisine : Prawn Mee

SINGAPORE - Saturday lunch with my flatmate and her cousins. Beach Road Prawn Mee @ East Coast Road. The Calamansi juice behind was the highlight of the meal!

Free Art Friday

ART

I was riding the bus home at noon and decided to hop off for a bit and check out the SAM. Fortunate for me, all exhibits are free from 12 noon to 2 in the afternoon. I had seen most of the exhibit in my last visit to the SAM in June. However, there was one particular exhibit that I thought was quite interesting. It was by a Balinese artist, Masriadi. At only 34 he has accomplish quite a collection of contemporary art works. In my opinion, a few of his works were reminiscent of the oeuvre of Dali and Picasso. The painstaking attention to detail of his work is simply incredible.

8Q

His works are currently being housed at the SAM 8Q Building. Not quite as special as the main Singapore Art Museum, but still has its own charm. However, imagine my surprise when I walked in the lobby of 8Q and the first thing I see is this...

I must check out Biennale next.

Kandinsky-esque

SINGAPORE - Getting tired and frustrated with the job hunt. I decided to explore the area where I live and I found a fantastic looking building. It's our community library. Not too shabby, I think! It's a very modern building, inside and out. The books selection is just okay, but it's a nice place to sit and read. I found out that they offer several classes as well, one of them being Pilates. So I just might sign up
for that!

P.S. Still no signs of the beach. It's a myth!

Gearing Up to F1

F1 Fever

SINGAPORE - First F1 Race to be held in Singapore this September.

It Doesn't Rain On My Marine Parade

SINGAPORE - So I have officially moved to Singapore. I finally found a flat, which quite a tricky and tedious task. Dealing with Agents, viewing quite a few horrific looking places (due to my budget) and trying to get my head around which location would be best -- I'm glad it's all over. I was lucky to find a nice spacious room in a flat on Brooke Road along Marine Parade. Apparently it's a 10-15 min walk to East Coast Park Beach (I have seen no signs of it so far, so it's still a myth to me).

Here are a few photos of the area.

Singapore Cuisine : Kaya Toast

Ya Kun Kaya Toast @ Marine Parade

SINGAPORE - Trying one of Singapore's local snacks, Kaya Toast. Kaya is a spread which is made of coconut milk, sugar, eggs and flavored with pandan. It's eaten by spreading it on toast with a sliver of butter or margarine in the toast.

It is quite nice, if a bit sweet. Not too keen on the egg dipping though.
